KNOX CHURCH HEW ORGAN

ORDER PLACED WITH ENGLISH FIRM No time lias been lost by tho Deacons’ Court of Knox Church in giving effect to the Supremo Court’s approval of the transfer of the Glendining bequest for a peal of bells to the purchase of a new organ to replace the instrument which Lewis and Sons, of London, supplied in 1884. Tho Deacons’ Court has placed an order with the' well-known English linn of organ builders, Messrs William Hill and Sons and Norman and Beard, for a new pipe organ. The instrument will bo erected in tho church about next April, and will be ready for nse by August of next year. All tho latest accessories and improvements in organ building will bo included in this now organ. The action is clectro-pncnmatic, similar to that in tho now Town Hall organ in this city and the new organ in tins Christchurch Cathedral. The console will be, detached and placed on the ground floor of tho church, about where the present pulpit stands. The choir will ho seated around tho console of tho organ, thus giving the organist complete control of the choir from his seat at the organ. The specification of the organ, chosen to suit the requirements of Knox Church, has been drawn up by Mr Donald Beard, a director of the organ' building Finn, and Mr C. Boy Spackman, the organist ci Knox Church. Great care lias been taken in tho setting out of tho specification, and when completed the instrument should prove not only a beautiful and dignified instrument to lead the service of praise in the church, hut also a valuable addition to the musical assets of Dunedin City. 'Jlio organ will contain 38 speaking stops, will ho blown by electricity, and the console will he of the stop-key variety, replacing the draw stop knobs. Tho office-bearers of f\nox ( hurch are to he congratulated on their wisdom in securing this fine organ for their historic church. The financing of tho new organ is well advanced. The bequest of Mr Bobert Glondining. with ntcrest, mil amount to £1,935. A further substantial addition to tho fund is tho £4OO returned by Rev Tulloch Yuiile, Mr Yuillo asked’ the Deacons’ Court to use tho money as it thought best.
