UNEMPLOYMENT ACT
SUBSIDIES TO LOCAL BODIES CONFERENCE IN DUNEDIN ON MONDAY The mayor _ (Mr R. S. Black) Jthis morn.tig received the following telegram from Mr Malcolm Fraser, Unemployment Commissioner: —“In connection with the Unemployment Board’s offer of subsidies to local bodies in districts where unemployment is acute to induce them to provide work for the unemployed as a special measure with the object of tiding over the Christmas season, could you arrange a conference without cost to the board for Monday morning or afternoon of representatives interested to discuss the proposals? If so, a member ol the board will visit Dunedin over the week-end to meet the conference.” The mayor has replied stating that a conference is being arranged to take place at 2 o’clock on, Monday afternoon. Invitations to the conference are being sent to borough councils about the city, to the Schools’ Committees’ Association educational authorities, the Taieri County Council, the Wnikouaiti County Council, and the Peninsula County -Council.' > ■ - - The mayor has further wired stating that he will be arr'ving in Wellington on Tuesday and will be glad to meet representatives of the board on Tuesday morning to discuss the question of subsidies.
