ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
DRAGGED INTO MACHINERY. A. verdict of accidental death while working at a saw bench was returned by the coroner, Mr E. G. Eton, at the inquest at Masterton concerning the death of Donald Laing, aged twentythree. There were no actual eye-wit-nesses of the accident, but it is surmised that the deceased, in attempting to replace a belt which had come off, wan dragged against the flywheel of the engine, ins neck being dislocated and his skull fractured. The fatality occurred at Tinui on Wednesday. SUDDEN DEATH. A married woman named Fanny Braid, forty-nine years of age, died suddenly at Brighton yesterday morning. She had been suffering from heart attacks, and was visiting a neighbour, when she suddenly collapsed, dying shortly after being taken to her home. Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., conducted an inquest at Brighton this morning. Dr Shaw, of Mosgiel, was of the opinion that death was due to valvular disease of the heart, and a verdict in accordance with his evidence was returned. ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED. At tho inquest at Wellington to-day on Charles Frederick Orr, of Eastbourne, the evidence showed that deceased, by occupation a carpenter, engaged in ‘fishing to help out the family_ resources while awaiting employment at his trade. With a man named Kingi he went to Ward Island with a net, and while operations were in progress the dinghy floated away from the shore, and Orr swam out to recover it. Appareutly he got into difficulties and was drowned. In returning a verdict of accidentally drowned, the coroner said Kingi seemed to have acted reasonably and helpfully under the circum-stances.-—Press Association.
ALLEN v. ALLEN. Eileen Allen (petitioner) sought a' dissolution of her marriage nith Hi-gh Malachi George Allen (respondent) ou the ground of separation for three years. The petitioner was represented by Mr F. C. Dawson. , Petitioner, in evidence, said that she was married to the respondent in 1923 at Dunedin, and there was one child of the marriage. In 1927 an agreement, of separation was _ entered _ into, and she had not lived with him since. _ Corroborative evidence was given, after which a decree nisi to he moved absolute after the expiration of three months was made, respondent to pay costs on the lower scale.
