A REMARKABLE FLIGHT •• CASUAL SORT OF FELLOW " Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, November 5. Oscar Garden, who is described as “ a casual sort of fellow,” sent word to his friends that ho was leaving Wyndham this morning, and w r as due at Alice Springs, in Central Australia, to-night. He will arrive at Sydney to-morrow night, which means very long hops over treacherous desert country. Garden is the first of the England to Australia airmen to land at Wyndham. Leading pilots say that this is a much more ticklish proposition than landing at Darwin. ARRIVAL AT ALICE SPRINGS SYDNEY, November 5. Oscar Garden arrived at Alice Springs after dark to-night. FINE LANDING IN SEMIDARKNESS. SYDNEY, November 6. (Received November 6, at 10.30 a.m.) The airman Garden made a fine landing at Alice Springs in the semi-dark-ness, A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE CAPTAIN CHICHESTER’S TRIBUTE WELLINGTON, November 5. “Garden’s is a wonderful performance,” said Captain Chichester, who Hew from England to Australia earlier in the year, “When one considers his lack of experience and the fact that he had beaten such professionals as Major Pickthorne, who had been instructing at Brooklands for years, and Captain Matthews, -who also had years of instructing, and Flight-lieutenant Hill, one realises what a fine effort it has been. There have 'been only three flyers with light aeroplanes who have done the trip without a crash—Hinkler, Kingsford Smith, and Garden.” Regarding Garden’s chances on a transtasman flight, Captain Chichester said ho did not think that his Moth could carry enough petrol for the journey. “They be able to get 100 gallons into his machine, but that would not last more than 1,400 miles. I only hope the flight will be an incentive to other New Zealanders to try to bring New Zealand to tho forefront of tho nations in noteworthy ilyiilg achievements,” concluded Captain Chichester. '
