21ST BIRTHDAY

OCEAN BEACH SCOUTS’ CEREMONY In a period of twcnty : ono years the influence of the Ocean Beach Boy Scouts company over the young people of the borough of St. Kilda has shown that the action of the founders has fully justified itself. The company has experienced good and bad fortune in that time, and has come through the lean periods with Hying colours, and is now one of the foremost bodies of Snouts in the city. Largely this success has • been duo to a committee of parents, which has undertaken the work of providing funds to meet the expenses necessarily incurred by an organisation of this kind, and generally to watch over the fortunes of the troop. Some years ago it was felt that a hall was really needed as headquarters for the company, and as the result of a campaign for funds launched by the committee the St. Kilda Scouts arc now possessed of a fine building. further evidence of the interest of the committee iii the welfare of the troop was shown at a function last night in the Ocean Beach Scout Hall, to mark the twenty-first birthday of tho Ocean Beach Boy Scouts and Wolf Cub Pack. Tho hall was gaily decorated with flags and streamers, ar.d over 100 people attended. A similar function had been held earlier in tho week for the Scouts and Cubs, and last night’s entertainment vas intended for tho committee members and for exScouts and others connected with the troop.
