ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
AT FOOT OF CLIFFS. Horace Rosindalc, aged fifty, a build* ing contractor, had been missing from his home and place of business since Monday morning. His bodv was round last evening at the foot of the Scarborough Cliffs at Sumner (Christchurch). His coat and hat were found on toj) of the cliff. The police were unable to recover the body owing to a heavy sea swell making an approach ta the rocks from the sea impossible, Rosindale had been m bad health and low spirits for some time.. He had been recently elected president ot the Canterbury Builders’ Association.
RAILWAY CROSSING FATALITY.-
INQUEST QN VICTIM.
■U the inquest concerning the death of Samuel Bambery, a lorry driver, who was killed at a railway crossing near Bainesse last Thursday, Mrs Leach, who witnessed the accident, stated that the lorry driver did not seem to be aware that the train was so close when he drove over the crossing. She knew that the deceased was blind in the left eye. The driver of the engine, T. Yardley, stated that the driver of the lorry gave no indication that ho was about to cross the line,. As soon as witness saw the lorry mabing for the crossing he applied jha brake and brought the train to a stop within 200yds The coroner returned a verdict that the deceased met Ins death in a collision between a motor lorry he was driving and a train, adding that the accident could only be attributed to the failure of the deceased to take proper precautions when approaching the crossing. Crossing proolems were difficult ones, _ stated the coroner, human element being a deciding factor between safety .and danger. —Palmerston North Press Association telegram
