Vice-Eecae. After formally opening the annua! exhibition of the Wanganui Arts and Crafts Society in the Sargeant Gallery hist evening, during his second visit to Wanganui, the Governor-General (Lord Bledisloe) inspected the exhibition, and bought a picture, ‘Ploughing,’ by Mrs Whiteman, of Kaitokc, for £SO. The artist is well known for her studies of animals. ‘ Ploughing - is painted in oils, and shows a typical plough team in action. The Rev. G. Heighway and Miss Lucy Heighway, who have concluded a visit to Dunedin in connection with the induction of the Rev. James MV Smeeth, and for the purpose of handing over the manse which Mr Heighway has presented to the church, were the guests last evening at a social specially arranged in their honour at the United Congregational 'Church. Many line tributes were paid by parishioners to one who had been their revered pastor and friend for twentyone; years,- and who, by his gift, had shown his continued loyalty to the church.- A memento of the occasion was presented to Miss Heighway.
