LIFE SAVING

HEAD CENTRE MEETING Last night’s meeting of the Otago Head Centre of the Royal Life Saving Society was presided over by Mr H. H. Henderson. The Chairman said that the secretary hud advised bim that the diplomas, which were overdue, should bo to hone by the next mail. ■ Mr D. Bannatyno being unable to continue as secretary, Mr P. A. Mathiesou was appointed to occupy the position. Reference was made to the rescue performed at St. Clair last summer by two young men, Messrs I. Turnbull and R. Coxon, it being pointed out that through some oversight no application had been made to . the Royal Humane Society for recognition of their performance. , . It was decided to make application to th,e Royal Humane Society for recognition of this meritorious rescue. Tho New Zealand Council of the Royal Life Saving Society wrote stating that the 1931 surf championships would bo held at Wanganui at the same time as the swimming championships. Tho annual conference of head centres would be held at the same tinie. Dr Evans wrote accenting appointment as hon. medical officer, nnd_ enclosing a donation. —It was decided to thank Dr Evans for his donation. The following awards were granted : Primary school certificates: George J. W. Galland (Normal), Boy Boswell (North-east Valley), Raymond Andrew Findlay (Caversham), Nancy Avoids Eileen J. Holmes, and George Munro (Normal). Proficiency and bronze medallion George Chapraan-Cohen.
