AGE AND NEGLECT
CAUSE HOUSE CONDEMNATIONS UNFIT FOR HABITATION “Situated in various parts of v the city are quite a number of dwellings which were erected many years ago, and which, if looked after,, continue to lie suitable for human habitation. But through age and neglect some have been allowed to become in such a state of disrepair as to be no longer of any service,” states the chief, sanitary m.spector (Mr- C. J. King) in his annual certificates were issued with respect to twenty-six of these, with the result that they have been pulled down. Eleven were situated in Castle street, five in St. Andrew.street, five in Trent avenue, one each in Bow lane, George, Ann, Valpy, and Swan streets. . , Resulting from direct action by the department, old buildings were removed in the following streets: —Grange street, Clark street, Botha street, Baldwin street, King street, and Albany street.
