CAVERSHAM SCHOOLBOYS' RACE

Tho ono-mile championship for boys of tho Caversham School, under tho ausiivices of the Caversham Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club, was held on Monday afternoon, thirty-livo runners facing the starter. The winner of tho event holds the memorial cup for one year as well as receiving a gold medal, whilst t o second competitor receives a silver medal. An excellent pace was set from the start, the large field soon spreading out. W. Sinai 11, who showed evidence of consistent training, was the winner, while D. Lumb, last year’s winner, was second, and R. M‘Levh third. At the conclusion of the race tho cup was presented to tho winner by Mr C. K. Heaton, in the unavoidable absence of tho club president (Mr J. M. Brown). 'Mr Heaton, in congratulating tho winner on his excellent performance, apologised for the absence of the president, and at the conclusion of his outline of tho history of tho race, called on the daughter of the president (Mi, ■ Myra Brown) to hand tho cup to tho successful competitor.
