—Vice-Regal.— The ' Governor-General and Lady. Alice Fergusson' are making their, farewell visit to Auckland.’ They at* tended the last two days of the Auck* land Racing Club’s meeting, being farewelled on the last day( and yesterday they visited several institutions. While the Governor-General said goodbye to the veterans yesterday afternoon Her Excellency was farewelled by, the women of, Auckland,- Three presentations were made, one being from the Maori women, and speeches of farewell expressing deep appreciation ofi the services rendered by Her Excellency to the causes of womankind. Thu citizens’ farewell will take place in th? Town Hall this evening, and their Excellencies will leave for Wellington, on Sunday night.
A Hamilton message announces tha death of Mr Robert Henry Boyd, lata Chief Postmaster at Wellington. Ha was fifty-six years of age and formerly Chief Postmaster at Hamilton for three years. He began as a cadeti at Hawera and then became second money order clerk at Wanganui. Ho was postmaster at Morrinsville, and then became Chief Postmaster ah Thames. , ■, Prior to. the New Year holidays tha combined telegraph staffs met to present a gold watch to Mr A. S. Bushy assistant supervisor of the Telegraph Delivery Branch, Dunedin. The assistant postmaster, senior superintendent, and the delivery branch supervisor all eulogised Mr Bush’s good work during his service in Dunedin. During his thirty-five years’ service Mtl Bush had been stationed at Blenheim* Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington* and Dunedin. After an extensive holiday Mr and Mrs Bush intend settling in Auckland A presentation of ai case of razors was also made to Mr: Bush by the Commercial Travellers’ 1 Choir in appreciation of his service* and as a token of the esteem in which ho was held by tbe choir. A month’s mind for the late Bishop Cleary will , be instituted in Stw Patrick’s Cathedral, Auckland, ou January 17 (says a Press Association telegram). , Pontifical requiem mass will be sung by Bishop Whyte, of Dunedin, and the discourse will be preached _ by the new Bishop of Auckland (Dp Liston).
