The death is reported from England of Mr W. W. Robinson, formerly a leading figure in Auckland sporting circles. He was one of the pioneers who introduced Rugby football to the province, and with others drafted the rules of the game from memory. His services to the game both as a coach and as a player, were invaluable. In 1870 he played for Thames against Auckland, and represented the pro* vinca in 1876 find 1877 as a cricketer.Mr Robinson had a long and fruitful record both as a member of the Auckland Club, and skipper of numerous representative sides. He was one ot the founders of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Association, which held its first carnival at Ellerslie Gardens m 1877. Although he left Auckland in 1889, Mr Robinson never lost Merest in sport in this part of the world,, and was one of the first to welcome the 1924 All Blacks when they played in the district where he resided. Id® contributed much : material of historical value to New Zealand football, and wrote a book on' its “development from small beginnings.” When in Auckland he was in business in the sports goods line ih partnership with the late Mr Arthur Tilly.—Auckland correspondent.
