CUT FROM FRAME
VANDYCK PAINTING STOLEN Pi-mc Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, LONDON, December 31. The Vandyck masterpiece ‘ Concert Des Anges,’ which is valued at £20,000, and was despatched a few days ago from Brussels to London, addressed to Mr Godfrey Phillips, an art dealer, is missing. When the packing case was opened it was disclosed that the picture had been completely cut out of the frame. - The owner, Monsieur Bechbache, says that the picture is insured for only a quarter of its value. This recalls tile former theft ’ of another famous Vandyck at Courtrai in December, 1907, which was similarly cut from the frame and later was sold to a Bruges hawker for four shillings. The thief was eventually sentenced to imprisonment for four years.
