THE FINAL ORDER

DEATH OF WAR VETERAN * TIPPERARY ’ AFTER FUNERAL. Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright VANCOUVER, December 31. Old John Vicars, a veteran of Indian campaigns and the South African War. jumped into the fray when the Great War loomed up, and though well over the age he organised and went to France with the 122nd battalion of cowboys and prospectors from cattle ranges in the interior of British Columbia. Last week he died. His last request was to convey a certain letter to the bandmaster of the regiment. “ Don’t open it until I’m safely lowered in the grave,” ran his instructions. When the envelope was opened it was found that his command was that all the way back from the cemetery the band should play ‘Tipperary.’ They obeyed the colonel’s final order.
