STORIES OK LIQUOR CONDITIONS SENTENCED FOR CONTEMPT OF COURT. Pres* Assst-kUan—By Tchgraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, October 30, Three times reporters were sent out by city editors to investigate liquor conditions, and they published firstperson stories, saying that they had easily purchased liquor in forty-nine “ speakeasies.” The grand jury took up the matter, but the trio of journalists refused to violate the ethics of the profession by giving the names and addresses of those from whom they bought the drinks. Mr Justice Gordon, of the Supreme Court of the district of Columbia, sentenced them to forty-live days’ imprisonment for contemp.it of court.
