LONDON, October 26. ■ Mr Frederick Palmer, consulting engineer, has been engaged to supervise the rebuilding of the Waterloo bridge at a fee of approximately £50,000. The Improvements Committee oi the London County Council recommends that Mr Palmer should also bo commissioned to supervise the construction of the new Charing Cross bridge at a fee estimated at £IBO,OOO. The combined cost of the works is £13,500,000. and they will occupy seven years.

A bable message on October 20 stated that the Improvements Committee had i ecommended the London County Council to proceed- forthwith with the reconditioning and widening of Waterloo bridge which was formerly threatened with demolition. The central arches are now shored up, and a temporary steel bridge carries much of the traffic.
