GOOD TEMPLARY

The meeting of the Rescue Lodge, No. 105, International Order of Good Templars, was held on Tuesday in the Oddfellows’ Hall, King Edward street, Bro. W. A. lies, Chief Templar, presiding. There was a good attendance, and visitors were present from the btnr of Freedom, Hope of Cavershnm, and Hope of Dunedin. An invitation from District Lodge to attend a church parade in November was received and accepted. Bro. Geo. Dougal was recommended for the office of superintendent of legislative work. Sister L. Baird, who had recently visited Wellington, conveyed greetings from Star of Wellington and Star ot Newtown Lodge, also St. Thomas Juvenile Temple. Reports from the official visitors to the juvenile temples and from Absent Members’ Committee were received, and several members who had been absent for some time were cordially welcomed. The younger members had charge ot the programme, and besides a number of interesting and amusing competitions the following rendered items :—Dnet, Sisters E. Page and T. Paußl; solo, Sister Schultz; mandolin selection, Bro. T Cochrane The thanks of the lodge Le oSed to Bro. S Ml for providing two collection boxes for the juvenfle temples, and the vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by Sister Mrs Pauli (Hope of Caversham), Bro. Williams (Hope of Dunedin), and Bro. S. Sell (Star of Freedom). The Hope of Gaverham Lodge, No. 128, held its weekly meeting in tne Baxter Hall. Marion street, on Thursday last, Sister Mrs Giles, C.T., presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors, who were given a cordial welcome. Three candidates were initiated, and one member was admitted on clearance. A favourable report was received of Sister L. Thomas, who has been laid aside in illhealth for some time. After business had been put through, the following members contributed Songs, bisters R. Shultz, E. Page, N Thorn. Bros. H. Gore, and E. lies; recitations. Sister N. Grieg and Bro. R. Cromarty. An enjoyable supper was handed round, after which a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitors, also those who contributed to the programme. Fraternal greetings were responded to, and conveyed by Bro. H. Gore (Hope of Dunedin), Bro. S. Sell (Star of Freedom) Bro. R. Cromarty (All Nations), and Bro. E. ’Hes (Rescue). The weekly meeting of the Ever hopeful Juvenile Temple was held in the School Gvmnasium, Caversham, on Monday last. Sister T Paul, C.T.. presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors. Several members rendered items, and competitive games were indulged in by a large majority and enjoyed by all present. The temple was under the supervision of Sister Mrs Giles, assistant superintendent. There was a good attendance of mem hers when the Beacon Juvenile Temple met on Saturday in the Currie Street Hall Port Chalmers. Five boys and seven girls were made members ot the temple. The juveniles took a keen in terest in the business of the meeting, and the superintendent gave a short address on 4 The Name of the Temple.’ Sisters J. and M Telfer rendered a duet and Sister Mrs Smellie a recitation. The smperntendent was pleased to see fifteen adilt> present. It was decided to write thanking the Salvation Army captain for the use of the Army Hall on the opening night The Star of the South Juvenile Tenlple met in the Oddfellows’ Hall, King Edward street, on Tuesday last, Sister F. M'Laren presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors. After business the item for the evening, amateur recitation competition, showed some real good talent among the members, the judges’ task being very hard. The winners each received a prize donated by the superintendent. A 11 bran tub” dip was also held, and all the goods were disposed of in a very short time. Superintendent Bro. Jas. Dalton was in charge.
