MOTOR FATALITY
INQUEST ON PILLION RIDER i The inquest o Ernest Paul Ayers, who died on October 11 from injuries received in a.collision between a motor cycle and a motor car at tho corner of King street and St. David street, was concluded yesterday afternoon before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M. Sub-inspector Cummings conducted the inquiry for the police. Mr J. B. Thomson appeared for tho relatives of the deceased and Mr L, R. Simpson, on behalf of Mr Hanlon, watched the proceedings for William Tilbury, the driver of the car. Continuing his evidence, Constable Holder read further matter from a statement given by Tilbury, who attributed the cause of the accident to the fact (as it seemed to him) that the motor cyclist was speeding and not keeping a proper look-out at the intersection
Having summed up the evidence, the Coroner said that in view of the circumstances it would be_ improper of him to express any opinion on the evidence or criticise it in detail. However, tho driver of tho car bad undoubtedly cut the corner, and it was also quite clear to him that the motor cyclist was proceeding at too high a rate oi speed These, he considered, wore the contributing factors as regards the cause of the accident. He could only find that the deceased died on October II at the Dunedin Hospital from cerebral compression and a lacerated brain as the result, of injuries caused through his being accidentally thrown bn October 10 from a motor cycle driven by Robert Charles King, which collided with a car driven by William Tilbury.
