FORESTERS C.R. Sister Garni© presided over a good attendance of, the members at the meeting of Court Bruce, held at The members who attended the official visit to Court tattle John gave glowing reports of the reception accorded them at Dunedin, and it was agreed to extend an invitation to that court to pay a return visit to Court Bruce on November 9. A splendid programme has been arranged for the visitors. One nomination was accepted, arid after the close of the ‘ meeting a pleasant time was spent in:dancing.The meeting of Court Pride of Alexandra was held in the Masonic Hall, when there was a good attendance oi members.'■ The C.R. ; Bro, E. O’Reilly, carried out his duties in a creditable manner. It was decided to alter tho meeting hour to 8 o’clock during the summer months, and to hold the nest meeting on November 4, instead of on Labour Day. After the meeting closed Bro. O’Reilly gave an interesting address on ‘ Social Advantages of forestry,’ which was much appreciated by the members. A cordial welcome was extended to Sister 11. Black after a long illness. Two nominations were accepted, and the meeting closed with a social. ■ ■ There was a good attendance of members at the Inst meeting of Court Little John, under the direction of C.R. bister Dreavor. All arrangements were completed for the visit to Court Bruce next month, and a large number ot members expressed their intention ot taking part in the visit. It was decided to enter two teams for the card tournament held by Court King Edward’s Pride. One team will be composed of members ot tho Reynolds family. It was reported that the celebrations of the first anniversary of the juvenile branch would take place next month. The court accepted tho invitation to bo present at the parade to the Hanover Street Baptist Church on the first Sunday in November. A gramophone recital was given by P.C.R. Bro. Goodlet, and was much appreciated by all present. Court Molyneux held its meeting at Clark’s Buildings, Balclutha, when O. Bro. T. M‘ Bride presided over a good attendance of members. The Social Committee reported that the recent ball was very successful, and a substantia! credit balance was shown. A vote of thanks and appreciation of the services rendered by the committee was passed. An invitation was accepted from Court Enterprise to attend its sixty-fifth anniversary celebrations at Dunedin, and several members intimated their willingness to make the trip. Court King Edward’s Pride held its fortnightly meeting on Thursday last, when C.R. Bro. G. K. Perriton presided over a good attendance. Following tho opening of tho meeting tho chairs were occupied by P.C.R.s. The toast of “The Visitors ’’ was responded to by P.D.C.R. Bro. C. C. Robertson. Owing to his removal from Dunedin, the C.R. tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret, and several members spoke on the good work that Bro. Perriton had done in the interests of the court. P.C.R. Sister Fraser was elected to tho vacancy, and Sister Sinclair was elected J.B. P.C.R. Bro. A. B. Dyke was elected as district delegate in place of Bro. Perriton. The newly elected officers were installed by P. Bro. Robertson. On behalf of the court Bro. Perriton presented to P.C.R. Sister Fraser an enlarged photograph of the officers in recognition ot her services to the court. Three new members were admitted and three nominations were accepted. Court Pride of Green Island held its fortnightly meeting on Wednesday last. C. Bro. Kano presided over a good attendance of members. An invitation from Court Robin Hood was accepted for its anniversary celebrations next week. An official visit was received from Court Queen of Green Island Five new members were admitted and one nomination was accepted.

The fortnightly meeting of Court Pride of Gore was held in the band room, Gore, on Thursday last. The C.R.. Sister Reid, had charge of a good attendance of members. It was decided to purchase a piano for the use ot the court, and the matter was referred to P.D.C.R. Bro. M‘Allan, of Dunedin, to act. For the purpose of raising funds for the annual meeting ot the district, to bo held at Gore next year, it was decided to hold a series of euchre tournaments. One new- member was admitted and one nomination was received for next meeting. C.R. Bro. M. Cochrane presided over a large attendance of youthful members of Court Pride of Molyneux, Balclutha, when five new members were admitted, it was decided to meet monthly during the summer months. following the close of business harmony was contn •mted by Bros. Bates, Keach, Davey, and Hansen, and members aiso took part in.games. The court continues to show splendid progress, both numerically and financially, and the future prospects are very aright. The Otago Provincial Council held its annual meeting in the Y.M.C.A. on Thursday evening. Prov. C.R. Bro. J. Rhodes occupied the chair, and the following delegates were present:—Sisters M. Benfell and G, M’Creath (Sobriety Tent), Sister A*. R. Verngreen, Bros. R. Graves and H. Sloan (Star of South Tent), Bro. W. VValkinshaw (Port Chalmers Tent), Bros. L. V. Gain and A. V. Gain (Hope of Dunedin Tent). It was decided to hold the intertent initiation competition in the Hope of Dunedin Tent’s room on November 4, and that,the juvenile section be judged at its respective tent meetings during November. Final arrangements were made for the juvenile annual competitions im singing and elocution, to be held on November 23. It was announced that the Southern Cross Juvenile Tent had won the Primrose Shield with 79 points, and Hope of the Valley secured second place with 70 points, and that the shield would be presented by Prov. S.J.T. Sister M. Benfell on November 7. It was resolved that the council officially visit each tent during the present quarter to install the officers. The election of officers resulted as follows: Pjov. C.R, Bro. L. V. Gain; Prov. D.R., Sister A. R. Verngreen; levite.

The Sobriety Tent held'a successful musical evening on Monday last, when the following items were tendered :-rPianoforte duets—Misses Ogg and Grace, Miss R. Bond and Master Phelan; solos—Miss Cora Buchan, Mr A. Batchelor; recitations, Miss Newey and Miss Billie Burns; classic dance, Miss Aitken; 'instrumental solos, Miss Sraaill and Messrs Smith and Bradley,; vocal duet, Misses Baker; pianoforte solo, Master Phelan. Bro. Reekie proposed a vote of thanks to, the performers and the thanks of the members were extended to Sisters Henderson amd Reekie, who were responsible tor the programme. . The fortnightly meeting of the Hope of Dunedin Tent was held in the tent room, Marshall’s Chambers, C.R. Sister C. A Aburn presiding over a good attendance of members. One candidate was initiated, and after the usual business a nail-dnving competition for the sisters was held. The competitors caused considerable amusement, and the senior sister, Mrs A. Coulter, was.au easy winner. , , ~ . The Port Chalmers Tent held its monthly meeting iu the old Town Hall, Currie street, on Wednesday evening. C.R. Sister Maxwell presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. Reports from the Provincial Council were received, the following visitors conveyed fraternal greetings;— Bister M. MANCHESTER UNITY The Loyal Caversham Lodge met on Wednesday evening in the lodge hall, Forbury Corner, N.G. Bro. Roy presiding. A letter was received from the secretary of tho Loyal Princess Mary Lodge extending an invitation to the latter’s anniversary meeting on Tuesday next, and it was decided to attend officially. One candidate was initiated. Tho N.G. extended a welcome to the members of the Loyal Valley Lodge, who were present to engage in a debate with the Caversham brethren the subject, ‘ Are Moving Pictures a Benefit to tho Community 5" was keenly debated by teams of five members from each side." V.G. Bro. E. Shepherd led the Valley members, who championed the affirmative, and N.G. Bro. Roy led the negative side on behalf -of Caversham. 'Bro. Barrowclougli, who acted as judge, gave some valuable hints regarding the methods of attack and defence in debating, and paid a compliment to the high standard set by those taking part in tho debate. There was very littlo between the two teams, but ho "had to award Loyal Valley brethren first place. A cordial vote ol thanks was accorded Bro. Barrowclougli for his services as judge. It was reported that the dance held iu aid of tho children’s Christmas tree fund had resulted in a substantial sum being raised, and it was decided to hold a further carnival dance on November 19. Tho delegates to the district meeting at Pembroke submitted an interesting report of the proceedings, and wore accorded a vote of thanks, ft was decided to forward a letter of appreciation to the Loyal Upper CJutha Lodge for its treatment of visiting delegates. A'letter of congratulation is also to be forwarded to the Loyal Star of the North Ladies’ Lodge, which is being opened in Oamaru, P.P.G.M. Bro. .Jo.uiston reported attending the diamond jubilee of the Loyal Tapanui Lodge, and P.G. Bro. Thorn spoke on tho recently established past grands’ lodge. A large minitier ot members wore present, and sistet lodges were well represented. Three members of tho District Executive, P.G.M. Bro. P. Young, Prov. Secretary Bro. J. Hopcraft, and Prov. Treasurer Bro. A. Sligo, were cordially welcomed. Sympathetic reference was mad© to the death of an old member, Bro. Pearson, and a motion of condolence was carried. The proceedings then took the form of a smoke concert, when several toasts were honoured, the programme being interspersed with sev era) entertainng items by Bros. Sligo, Young, Foster, O’Shea, and Courts. I’he toast ol “The District Executive' was proposed by P.P.G.M. Bro. Stabb, who stated that tiie presence of the three executive members that evening was a compliment to tho lodge. Their executive officers, were dojng yeoman service for the order, and satisfactorily administered the affairs of the Otago district. Bro. Stabb paid a tribute to Bro. Hopcraft, who had made an ideal secretary for thirty-four years, and also to Bro. Sligo, whose services for the sick and distressed of the order were well known to members. Their present P.G.M., Bro. Young, was one of the. most earnest workers in the district. in responding, Bro. Hopcraft spoke in humorous vein of some interesting incidents during his long term ol office/and, referred to many old mem hers who had made history in the district, notably the late Bros. H. S. Fish and H. Bastings. Bro. Hopcraft stated that it gave one great pleasure to sec so many old members present, and mentioned visiting a very old member ot the Tapanui Lodge, Bro. Kilgour. at St. Kilda, that day. Bros. Sligo and Young also acknowledged the toast. “The Loyal Albion Lodge" waa proposed by the P.G.M.. tho N.G (Bro. Wilson) and P.G.s A. J. Smith. S. Smith, and J. Carrington respond ing The'latter, who is a member ol fifty-sevenyears’ standing, was cordially received, and in thanking members for tlie toast referred to some very early officers of the district with whom he had been associated. The toast ol “Sister Lodges” was dealt with by P.G. Bro. E. Longworth, members of the various visiting lodges responding.

mmm The fortnightly meeting of Linden Lodge was held in the lodge room on Tuesday, A.D Bro. Pratt presiding over a good attendance of officers and brethren. A progressive euchre coinpetition was held, and after some interesting games tne following were declared the winners Ladies; First prize, Mrs Pratt; booby prize, Miss Stewart. Gentlemen: First prize, Bro. T. Jenkins, Booby prize, Bro. Cope. Supper was served, and a very pleasant evening brought to a close with a texv dances, Mr H. -Death suplying the music. The last meeting of Enterprise Lodge was presided over by A.D. Dio. E. fi. Bezett, who welcomed the officers and members of Southern Oak _ Juvenile Lodge as guests, of the evening. The boys turned out in good stylo, and before any games were indulged in the installing officer, P.D.P. Bro. J. Walker, carried out the installation of officers. From the outset the boys showed a very keen interest in their work, and are to bo commended for the manner in which the business was conducted. At the conclusion of the ceremony a vote of thanks was accorded Bro. Walker for his services. The boys then entering .into the carnival spirit prevailing; Games ■ and competitions were carried out with real zest, and on their completion the boys retired to allow the business of the adult lodge to be conducted. The judges of the general efficiency competition presented their report on the result of the competition, and after some criticism by the members the report was adopted and a vote of thanks accorded the judges. During the evening two remits were handed- in for consideration by Grand Lodge, and Bros. LI. J. Peacock and A. Stewart reported on their visit to Ivanhoe Lodge. It was decided that as “wives’ and sweethearts’ night” falls on next meeting, that the lodge should open at 7. The fortnightly meeting of Ivanhoe Lodge was held on Wednesday, A.D. Bro. Bundle presiding over a larger attendance than usual. Visitors were present from all lodges in Nos. 1 and 2 districts. The loyal toasts were duly honoured and responded to by all visitors present. The lodge then adjourned and lady friends were admitted,- after which a pleasant evening was spent with progressive enchre, tlio following winners being declared : —Ladies: First prize, Mrs Peacock; booby prize, Mrs Brockie. Gentlemen : First prize, Bro, M'Pherson; booby prize, Bro. Tidey. The prizes were presented by P.D.P. Bro. M'Farlane, and Secretary Bro. Brockie, and M.C. Bro. Reeves, with his assistants, provided supper. A.D. Bro. R. J. Spiers presided over a large attendance of officers and members of All Nations Lodge, Delegates were appointed to attend the anniversary of Ivanhoe Lodge. Considerable satisfaction was expressed at success of the visit to Lily of the Valley Lodge ant] the winning of the Euchre Shield after their having held it for so long. An adjournment was made, and a cordial welcome extended to the officers and members of the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge, M.U.T.0.0.F., who played a game of cards. After several close games victory rested with the visitors, and supper was served. The visitors expressed thanks for the manner in which they had been received and their appreciation of the excellent evening provided. Lily of the Valley Lodge was well attended on Wednesday, the occasion being the final social and dance evening for the year. The result of the general efficiency competition was announced. and the members expressed their pleasure that last year’s winning lodge had succeeded in letainiug possession of the shield. The R.A.C. invitation to the Arch Druid to attend its meeting was accepted. A motion of sympathy was passed on behalf of the relatives of one of the old members who had passed away since the previous meeting, the members standing in silence. The close of another year is fast approaching, and mem hers are asked to make an effort to increase their numbers before the end of the present quarter. \ pleasant evening was spent at Myrtle Juvenile Lodge on Tuesday night, A.D lire S Douglas and his newly-installed officers acquitting themselves in an able manner. President B:o. Hunt and members of the council were in attendance, and presented the General Efficiency Shield to the lodge. Bro. Hook, A.D. of the team, in accepting the shield, thanked the council for the interest it was takinc in the lodge. Several members of West Harbour Lodge were present to teach the boys to sing the odes. Their offer was greatly appreciated both by the boys ami adults, and they received a vote of thanks for their services.
