LABOUR DAY SPORTS
The Caledonian Ground is-likely to bo the centre of attraction for. thousands of ploasure-seekers on Monday, when one of the biggest fixtures for years is to be staged under the auspices of the Otago Labour Day Association, commencing at 10.30 a.m. The main attraction, undoubtedly, will be the athletic and cycling programme that lias been arranged for the afternoon by the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, and for these events record entries have been received, there being no fewer that forty-eight for the ICOyds handicaps, while several other events have drawn as many as thirty entries. Moat of Otago's leading athletes will be. competing, and the half-mile walk is also creating much interest, especially as G. >S. Cabot, the ex-New Zealand champion, will be among the competitors. • ■ «
There, should he some exciting races in the. l cycling section, and a further'attraction will be the whippet nices that are being pul on by the Dunpdin Whippet Racing Club. On the lighter side, will be side shows and various amusement devices for all, and in the morn mg childrens races and a baby show will ba held. Given fine weather, the fixture should be very largely attended.
