TALKIE APPARATUS

—»►- MADE Hi HEW ZEALAND ALLEGED FILM DISCRIMINATION [From Our Pirltakkktart Ur.roirxis.] WELLINGTON, October 21. A question put by Air Fraser (Weilington Central) to the Minister of Industrics and Commerce in the House to-night related to the difficulties said to be experienced by users of New Zealand machines for the projection of talkie films. He asked tbo Minister to have inquiries made into the methods adopted by certain non-British film distributors operating in Now Zealand in regard to the conditions insisted upon before they will supply films to holders of talkie apparatus made in New Zealand. He declared that there was good reason to believe that discrimination was being exorcised to prevent certain exhibitors getting talkie film supplies. Mr Cobbe (AJinister of Industries and Commerce) stated that his department had been in close touch with the subject for four months, and he was aware of the conditions which existed. The matter was being investigated, and the questioner could rest assured that the department would secure equal justice for all suppliers of such apparatus, and ensure that no monopoly would he created.' At the same time, any evidence showing that any unfair discrimination in favour of any foreign talkio apparatus was being insisted upon would bo welcomed by the Industries and Commerce Department, which would be prepared to act.
