RETURNING TO ENGLAND
SIR HUGH CLIFFORD WIFE IN ILL-HEALTH. (British Official Wireless.) Pres* Association —By Telegraph Copyright RUGBY, October 18. Sir Hugh Clifford, Governor and Commander-iii-Chief oi the Straits Settlements, and High Commissioner for the Malay States, has asked permission to resign from his office on account of the ill-health of Lady Clifford, and he is returning with her to England. The following telegram has been sent by the Colonial Secretary (Lord Passheld) to Sir Hugh Clifford: “ I _am commanded by His Majesty the King to inform you that he accepts your resignation, and is much distressed to hear the reason which has necessitated it. The King much appreciates the long and distinguished services which you have rendered to the Empire.”
