BENEFIT CONCERT

EXCELLENT PROGRAMME ARRANGED . Dunedin people seldom fail to . respond to a genuine call for assistance in cases of misfortune, and the circumstances of a case for .'.which a benefit concert is to be hold at His Majesty’s Theatre should not require lengthy mention to ensure a large attendance. The concert has been arranged by the -Otago Hotel Employees’ Union to assist Mr Fred Walker and his family. Mr Walker, who has been in indifferent health for two years, has suffered a further relapse, and now his right arm has become completely paralysed, his medical adviser stating that ho will not recover the use of it for some considerable time. He is in straitened circumstances, and has a young family to support. To add further to his troubles, his wife scalded both of her feet and one of her hands, this causing her to be confined to her bed for the past six weeks, with prospects of being laid aside for some time yet. Those who have arranged the concert feel that its object is a worthy one, and they confidently anticipate liberal support. In arranging the programme Mr M. J. Kelly, the secretary of tho union, received much appreciated support from Mr J. Leech and others, and while those who attend will have the satisfaction of knowing they are supporting a worthy cause they will be provided with high-class entertainment. Many local performers willingly offered their services, and items are also to be given by the Commercial Travellers Entertainers’ Choir. A glance at the programme below will show the quality of the entertainment to be provided, ’the items being as follow:—Orchestral selection, Begg’s Orchestra ; contralto solo, Miss Netta Wilkie; baritone solo, Mr W.
