MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the Plunket office yesterday, when there were present Mesdames J. A. Johnstone (m the chair), Cunninghame,; Joseph M‘George, Marshall Macdonald, Arundel, Carr, John Watson, Cleghorn, Williams, Cairney, J. C. M’George, Miss Joachim, and Sister Nora. Apologies were received from Lady Allen, Mrs Garth Gallaway, and Miss .Oppenheim. The matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital reported as fqllows for the month ended September 30Number of patients admitted during the month —l4 mothers, 21 babies; patients discharged—l 4 mothers, 21 babies; largest number in residence at any one time—' 5 mothers, 23 babies. The sources of admission were Edendaie South, Invercargill, Port Ranfurly, Mosgiel, Seddonville, Tainui, and _Kaitangata. Classes to home . science students for the winter for 1920 were completed during the. month ._ There were 120 visitors to the hospital during the month. Gifts from Mrs J. Kirkland, Miss Theomin, and Mr Hunt (Nelson) were acknowledged with thanks. The Plunket nurses for north and central districts reported for the month:—Number of babies on_ the list, 760; older children on the list, 210; babies breast fed (including partly), 239; new cases for the month (babies only), 37; babies breast fed (including partly), new cases, 33; visits paid to homes, 594. Visits paid to Plunket rooms;—Stuart street—2Bo mothers, 212 babies, 41 other children: Roslyn—--116 mothers, 109 babies,. 116 other children ; Mornington—ll4 mothers, 99 babies, 25 older children; North-east Valley—3s mothers, 29 babies, 12 older children; Kelsey-Yaralla Kindergarten —9B mothers, 60 babies, 54 older children; out patients’ department public hospital—s mothers, 2 babies, 3 older children. Number of bottles of humanised milk sent but from Taieri and Peninsula dairy, 2,995. The Plunket nurse for Caversham district and out stations (north line) reported for the month Number of babies on the list, 171; babies, breast fed (including partly), 63; now cases for the month (babies only), 13; babies breast fed (including partly), new cases, 11; visits paid to homes, 172; visits paid to Plunket rooms, Stuart; street—49 mothers, 42 babies, 6 older 1 children ; Caversham ■ Kindergarten--60 mothers. 67 babies, 27 older children ; visits to Plunket rooms, out stations —39 mothers, 34 babies, 11 older children. The following visits were paid to out stations: —Port Chalmers 5, Ravenshonrne 5, Macandrew Bay 4, St. Leonards 2. The Plunket nurse for Anderson’s Bay district and out stations (south line) reported for the month Number nf babies on the list, 270; older chil- 1 dren on the list, 42; babies breast fed (including partly), 122; new_cases for the month (babies only), 25; babies breast fed (including partly), new cases, 22. Visits to Plunket rooms, Anderson’s Bay—l 62 mothers. 147 babies, 51 older children; Mosgiel—72 mothers, 66 babies, 19 older children; Outran—l 4 mothers. 12 babies, 1 older child; Green Island—43 mothers, 40 babies, 15 older children. Visits paid to homes—Anderson’s Bay 92, Mosgiel 20, Outrnm 2, Abbotsford, Green Island, and Burnside 27; places visited —Mosgiel 4, Ontrnm 2, Abbotsford 4, Green Island 4. Burnside 4 The Plunket nurse for South Dunedin district reported for the month : Number of babies on the list, 462; babies breast fed (including partly), 148; visits, paid to homes, _ 290; visits paid to Plunket rooms. King Edward street, South Dunedin—2so mothers, 236 babies, 32 older children.
At the close of the meeting Sir Truby King, who is at present in Dunedin in connection with the new short course for maternity nurses and raidwivos now being held at the Karitane-Harris Hospital, addressed the members of committee on matters of general interest and importance.
