A pleasant and instructive evening was spent at Otago Lodge last Monday evening, the occasion being the visit of the judges of the annual general efficiency competition. Special interest was attached to the proceedings, owing to the fact that the lodge was last year’s champion, and a considerable attendance of members and visitors followed the proceedings with keen interest. A.D. Bro. Barton and his officers were tuned to concert pitch, and discharged their several duties in a very creditable manner. An invitation from Ivanhoe Lodge to attend its t nniversary function was accepted, and A.D. Bro. Barton and V.A. Bro Tasker were appointed to attend officially. A letter was received from Bay Lodge announcing that an open A,D. competition would be held shortly, and several of the members present signified theirintention of being present. The bards’ report disclosed a considerable amount of sickness amongst the members. Bro. Miislin reported on his recent visit to Southern Oak Lodge, and spoke in complimentary terms of the manner in winch the boys had conducted their meeting. During the evening D.P. Bro. Hughes, on behalf of the lodge, presented PiA. Bro. A. M. Kilgour, who had led the recent Ross-Stewart Shield team to victory, with a framed photograph of the winning team as a token of their appreciation of his services. Bro. Kilgour suitably replied There was a gathering of betyreen thirty and forty members at the fortnightly meeting of Gore Lodge. A.D. Bro. H. Graham presided over the assembled brethren, and extended a, cordial welcome to two members from Canterbury, and several others from Otago, Mataura, and Thornbury. Four candidates were initiated and f wo members accepted on transfer. The initiation ceremony was efficiently conducted by the presiding officers, who received mendable praise at its conclusion. Three nominations for membership were, received, after which several members from the other centres conveyed their good wishes to the lodge. A very profitable and interesting discussion took place on the ceremonies of the order, and the lodge was closed at a late hour. ,
