At 2YA Mr A.-Varney will give a talk at 7.40 on ‘ Cricket and tho Coming English Tour.Q At 8 o’clock a programme of operatic gems will bo presented, tho vocalists being Mrs Amy Dunn (soprano), Mr 11. Madigan (bass), Mrs Emma Astill (contralto), and Mr Stewart Nelson. Mrs Astill was successful in winning tho ladies’ vocal scholarship at tho Wellington competitions festival this year, and Mr Madigan was also very successful The [terns will include numbers from ‘The .Merry Wives of Windsor/ ‘ Orfeo,’ ‘ The* Marriage of Figaro/ ‘La Tosca/ ‘La Uoliemc/ ‘La Giocouda,’ and ‘Cavalleria Husticaua.’ 'Flic orchestral items will include the overture ‘ Baymond/ .selections From ‘1 Pagliacci/ ‘Madame Butterfly,’ ‘Tho Fortune Teller./ and ‘The Dollar Princess.’ Mrs George Castlo will recite ‘ The Trooper’s Defence/ £ Jn tho Crowd’ (Ella Wheeler Wilcox), and a _ short poem entitled ‘The Last tilling at Night.’ The Grand Opera, Quartet will provide a change from their usual typo of programme at JJYA, when an entertainment consisting of plantation songs and choruses will bo presented. The programme will bo typical of negro life, every item on the programme being intended to help create tho required atmosphere. Tho vocal numbers will comprise many old favourites._ while banjo items amt comicalities will he introduced. Tho Studio String Octet, under Mr Harold Beck, will play many of the melodies which are inseparably associated with tho negroes in joy and sadness. ■ Elocutionary items will be given by Miss Winifred Smith. *4YA is relaying a concert from Waimatc, where celebrations in connection with the seventy-fifth anniversary of the town arc being bold.
