NEW ZEALAND HORSES
WHY THEY ARE IN AUSTRALIA
SYDNEY, August 16, (Received August 16, at 9 a.m.)
There is a good deal of curiosity in Sydney concerning the invasion of New Zealand horses, fifty of which are already hero for the spring carnival. A prominent New Zealand, trainer, in tho course of an interview, stated that the principal reason was the high cost of racing in the dominion, whereas Sydney was more centralised, with courses all adjacent to the city. - Riding fees were also cheaper, and there was always a prospect of selling a horse at a nice profit. / The position was not so rosy in New Zealand, where it cost £4 more to take horses from Ellerslio to Trentham and back than for the return trip to Sydney.
