TO-NIGHT’S CONTEST

INTERNATIONAL BOXING BOUT [By Hooker.] Ho modern American fighter has ever appealed :n Dunedin, and it is five years since an American fought in New Zealand, Harry Stone being the last to engage in a contest in tho dominion. Sammy Shack is the first American to he matched in Dunedin "by tho Otago Boxing Association, and the light-weight contest at the Drill Hall

to-night between Shack and Bobby Delaney, the Australian light-weight, is ceatmg much interest, especially as Shack has been showing good form in Ids gymnasium work-outs here. The winner ol this mill is to meet Johnny Leckie, and ,if any further incentive wore needed that should be enough. : 1 . , Delaney is a rising young lighter, with successive victories to his credit over Kid Along,' Norman Radford, Sammy Shack Bert Brown, and Ern Connors, whilt Shack is a Very experienced lighter 'There was little between the pair when they last met in Sydney, ‘ and just as close a contest may bo anticipated to-night. Both men shaped well in work-outs, though Shack -went in more for road work than for heavy work in I .tho gym. 'They should both be fit and well when they ento' tho ring to-night, and though Delaney may he the favourite, Shack is such e speedy fighter that ho is likely to keep him busy all tho time, and the issue looks fairly open. Les Murray (former light-weight champion) , will second Shack, who holds high opinion of Murray as a fighting man

The preliminary between F. Hood and T. Walker should be a worthwhile affair, as the winner is to represent Otago at the New Zealand championships Although both hail from Tom Harris’s school, no quarter is likely to be asked for or given, and both men being solid punchers, a vigorous light may be anticipated. During the evening the Rasmussen Cup will be presented to W. G. Leckie, who won this challenge trophy by his victory in the feather-weight _ division at the Otagc amateur championships.
