OTAGO CLUB MEETS About sixty, members were present at the monthly meeting of the Otago Motor Club last evening, Mr H. Halliday presiding. EXCESSIVE SPEED DEPRECATED. The excessive speed of some motorists on the Beach road, and particularly in the township at Macandrew’s Bay, was tho subject of a complaint from the North-cast Harbour Ratepayers’ and Householders’ Association, which .asked tho club to impress upon members tho necessity of a reasonable speed when passiim throught the township. The association also drew attention to tho county by-law with respect to cars returning to town after dark, and requested the club’s co-operation in ensuring that these cars dim their lights.,and give vehicles on tho waterfront the right of way. “If motorists want to speed, let them go somewhere where there is plenty of room and no cross roads,” said Mr Halliday. Ho was in complete sympathy with the complaint, and characterised the action of offending motorists as pure selfishness. The club had always discouraged speeding, and this was in violation of one of its strong principles. STONY CREEK ROAD. The- Southland Motor Association drew .attention to the bad condition of the recently-constructed section of tho road at Stony Creek on the main In-vercargill-Dunedin highway, and requested that the club should bring matter before the Public Works Department as soon as possible. The'Chairman stated that this matter had been reported to the Public Works Department, and. improvements had , been effected almost immediately Considering, that reconstruction work was being proceeded with, the road was now in quite fair order. ' BRIDGE OVER' LEE STREAM. Mr P. J.vLister wrote at length on the necessity; of a bridge over the Leo Stream ford‘between Outram and Hindon, and asked that, the club should do what it could in furthering this project. Mr Halliday remarked that the committee supported the proposal. ' :• GENERAL. Forty-seven now members were elected; ,; At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr R. E. Hayward .gave an interesting address on ‘The Four-speed Gear Box,’ his remarks being listened to with keen interest. /
