.—Ministerial.— The Hon W. B. Taverner (Minister of-Railways and Customs) arrived from tho north on Saturday, and will return to Wellington by the through express to-morrow morning. During his stay hero tho Minister will ho engaged m business of a private nature.

Dr Ivan Sutherland, lecturer in. philosophy at Victoria University College, leaves for America by the Aorangi to attend tho Ninth International Congress of which is to ho hold at Yale University next month. Dr Sutherland is to read a paper on the Maori rape, and will ho absent from the dominion for three months.

Sir A. J. Ashworth has been appointed manager of the Galloway irrigation area under the Department of Agriculture, and Air S. W. Josland, bacteriological assistant of the Department of Health at Dunedin, has been promoted to the laboratory Department of agriculture at Wallaccvillc. —Wellington correspondent. Professor P.
