AFTER THREE YEARS !H OPERA NEW YORK. May 20. Miss Marion Talley, the “Cinderella” of the Metropolitan Opera, who came here three years ago from Kansas City, announces the termination of her operatic career. Though only twenty-three years of age, she says that she has fulfilled her ambition, and with £IOO,UOO in her bank account, is retiring . with her father, mother, and sister to the West, where, she says, ‘‘l shall buy the farm 1 have always wanted, and be just like other farmers.” When Miss Talley made her debut in February, 1926, the famous opera house was crammed to its utmost capacity, and squads of policemen had to bo detailed to handle the crowds who tried to force an entrance and hear the Cinderella from the West. On that occasion among the audience was a contingent of enthusiasts from Kansas City who had paid £IO,OOO for a special train a?id other expenses to enable them to hear her.
