FLOOD RELIEF FUND

TOTAL STEADILY INCREASING The Deputy-mayor (Cr J. S. Douglas) announced at the meeting of the Flood Relief Committee this morning that the total amount contributed to the relief fund, including the Government and City Council donations, was now £8,884 19s lid. The returns from the highly successful sports meeting on Saturday and the excellent concert by the Tramways Band in the Empire Theatre last evening have yet to bo added to the total. Deep appreciation of the services,rendered by numerous people in connection with the sports meeting was expressed by several members of fho committee this morning. The following are among the numerous firms and'organisations who have sent in goods and foodstuffs (a largo number have made anonymous contributions) : W. Seoul la r and Co., Ltd., groceries;’ Irvine and Stevenson, stores; Ogilvio and Co., one ton coni; Kaitangata Coal. Co., Ltd., twenty-live tons coal; John. Mill and Co, one ton coal; Westport Coal Co., Ltd., ten tons coal; Duke Bros., meat; Miss Mahon, clothes; A. Wootton, bread; Oswald Smith and Co., Ltd., groceries; Salvation Army, bread; Mr Shorriff meat; N. W. Stevens, Ltd., Wellington (per R.
