CUSTOMS RETURNS
[Per Unubd Press Assocutior.] CHRISTCHURCH, January 30. Increases of £37 over the figures for December, 1928, and of £IB,OOO over those for January, 1928, are shown by the Customs returns for January. The Customs duties collected were £106,419; the beer duty was £7,584, an increase on January, 1928, of £1,308 j and the petrol tax was £14,824. WELLINGTON, January 31. An increase of £60,000 in the Customs revenue collected at the port of of Wellington in January is shown. When the figures are compared with those for the corresponding month last year they are as follow Net Customs, £248,807 (£188,906 last year); beer duty, £4,017 (£4,740 last year).
