HUGE IRRIGATION SCHEME

The British Government has agreed that the huge irrigation scheme on the Lachlan River, in New South Wales, should come within its £34,000,000 loan to Australia for the development of works. It is estimated that this scheme, which includes the construction of the big Wyangala Dam 300 miles west of Sydney, will cost £1,250,000 It will irrigate a vast area suitable for wheat and fruit now sparsely populated.—Australian 'Press Association.
