Dr Gordon llackcny, a former intimate friend and professional altondnnt, was ordered by i:hc Divorces Comb 1o pay £5,000 bo How,art Willis, an auctioneer, of Birmingham, for adultery with Mrs Willis, who is a daughter of Sir William Butler, Bart., whose marriage settlement on her was £4,000 annually. iVI r Justice Hill said tlmtbo had the utmost difficulty in assessing such _ a loss. The breaking up of his home did not deprive the husband of his benefits under the settlement. The wealth and position of the co-respondent did not matter. The injury was just as great, whether caused by 'King or beggar. When a man lost a loving wife the damage was not expressible in cash.—Australian Press Association*
