LATE SHIPPING
KARAMEA’S ARRIVAL. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s new motor ship Karamea arrived yesterday afternoon from London via Panama, Auckland, and Wellington. She was berthed at Port Chalmers to load frozen meat, dairy produce, and general cargo for England. The vessel, which is making her first visit to this port, is a sister ship to the company’s new motor ships Taranaki, Coptic, and Zcalanclic, which have already visited Otago. The Karamea was launched la-st May, and was completed on August 21. She sailed from London via Panama on September 14, and completed the voyage in thirty-five days, at an average speed of 13.7 knots. The speed on the trial trip was 15.6 knots, but during the voyage the engines were not running at full speed. Captain A. MTntosh, who was previously master of the Mahia and the Kin. Ora, is in command, and the following are the officers:—Chief, Mr E, T. Grayson; second, Mr F. Lutgens; third, Mr A. C. Jones; fourth, Mr W. Thompson; chief engineer, Mr J. G. Shaw; second, Mr A. Wilkinson; third, Mr C. Mackie; wireless operator, Mr D. K. Rennie; chief steward, Air E. 11. Simmons.
The Karamea is to sail to-day lor Bluff, where she will load 8,300 freight carcasses of meat, 1,000 boxes of butter, and 9,500 crates of cheese. The ship will complete loading at northern ports, and will sail finally from Auckland about December 8 for London via Panama.
EERSONAL. Captain H. Falconer, of tlio Shaw, Snvill, and Albion Company, arrived Orora Liverpool by tlie Matakana last evening. Captain Falconer wan in command of the company’s steamer Maman when she collided with an iceberg near Falkland Islands in August, 1927, while en route from Wellington to Loudon. Re is on holiday leave, and will spend three months at his home at Takapaina. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
