WORKSHOP GUTTED

METAL STOCKS RUINED The upper story of the pram departmerit in the workshops of Messrs J. and W. Faulkner's premises in Castle street was gutted by fire about 5 o’clock this morning. The Fire Brigade was summoned at 5.1(3, but before the outbreak was extinguished considerable damage hod been done. A huge quantity of metal was completely ruined by the fire. Valuable coppered steei wire that cannot bo replaced and a large stock of brassware were rendered useless. The wholp upper floor was reduced' to a tangled mass of wreckage, and practically nothing was «aved. The stock on the ground floor was considerably damaged’ by water. In ono place twenty-five tons of bright steel bars were covered with’water, and these will all have to be cleaned and dried immediately. The fire was fortunately confined to the one department, and no other part of the building was damaged. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The building was insured for £1,500, the stock for £2.500, and the machinery for £2OO, all in the Royal Exchange Assurance Company.
