CATHOLICS AND PROHIBITION.
TO TUB EDITOR. Sir.—An Irish pastor once asked a simple old man if there wore any sinners in heaven. “ Yes, father,” was the reply. “ There are ‘ quaro fellows 1 in every crowd.” Hence even among Catholics, who, H at all instructed, know that their highest ecclesiastical superiors are their safe guides on all matters that touch religion, and that thev are also the best judges as_ to what docs or does not touch religion, We find a few “ qua re fellows” who try to import Protestant principles into their religion. Common sense would tell anybody that this is not a matter betwceii Archbishop Redwood and Bishop Cleary, but one which finds ranged on one side Cardinals Bourne, O’Connell, Hayes, all tho archbishops of New Zealand and Australia, and all the bishops except one; and on the other side that one single individual backed by tho ministers of tho Baptist and Presbyterian Churches. There is a very old saying: “Show mo your company and I will toll you what you arc.’ —I am, etc., Catholic Layman. November 7.
