LIGHT WINES AND BEERS ANOTHER BALLOT ISSUE SOUGHT [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 23. A deputation representing the Middle Way League waited cm Mr Coates today urging that legislative provision should bo made to encourage the sale of light wines, light beers, and light cider, as against spirits and strong alcoholic liquors, which it was urged should be treated as drugs. The league proposed that there should be a second ballot paper t deal noth its issue*. Mr Coates said the Government was opposed to taking referenda on every conceivable question, and thought Parliament was the best place to .bad with such questions. A difficult situation existed on the question of the :s sues on the ballot paper, but be was optimistic enough to hope that ,omatliing would be got through this year that would clear up that side of (ho situation. Ho would consider ea-vfudy what the deputation had submitted, but could not promise legislation this year on the lines sked for.
