FAREWELL TO MISS BECKIHC-SALE 11 was a. representative gathering oi Baptists which met ut : llm Hanover Street Church last evening to bid I a rewell to Miss F. Beckingsalc, the senior missionary of the New Zealand Baptist Missionary .Society, who is leaving on Friday for her seventh period service .in Fast Bengal, _ India. Tbo Rev. l£. .Robertson (president of tbo Otago and Southland Auxiliary of the Baptist Union) occupied tbo chair. The Rev. F, S. Tuckwell, 8.A., was the first speaker, and commenced by reading a farewell message to Miss Beckingsalc, which bad been sent by the dominion secretary of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union. Mr Tuckwell said that Miss Bcckingsalo’s work had nut been of a greatly spectacular nature, it bad not been romantic, but it bad been heroic. For t liirty-thi-eo years siio had served on the mission field, and now, when she was entitled to stay at homo and enjoy a well-earned rest, her soil-sacrifice in returning to the work she loved was praiseworthy. To Miss Beckingsalc tbo speaker expressed the appreciation and t.be continued interest and support of those who remained at home. Mrs (T. 11. Driver, speaking on behalf of the 8.W.M.U., assured Miss Beckingsalc of the keen and prayerful interest of the Baptist women of New Zealand. The speaker reminded her listeners of how many, net only of tbo missionaries and converts, but also of tbo suffering women of India, would welcome Miss Beckingsalc back to her work in the dispensary and in the other branches of the service. Mrs E. S. Tuckwell then presented Miss Beckingsalo with a bouquet of (lowers from the Hanover street B.W.M.U. The Rev. Stanley Jenkiu (chairman of the Missionary Committee of Hie New Zealand Baptist Society) referred to the committee's appreciation of the service Miss Beckingsalc had rendered through many years, and also of the help she had been able to give during her time on furlough. _ He expressed tho desire that she might return to India not only as a sower of seed, but as a reaper of souls. When the guest of the evening w«s called upon to reply, the congregation rose to greet her. Miss Bcckiitgsnlo gave a brief description of mission work, urging young people to devote their lives to the missionary cause She also thanked the speakers for their kindly remarks and the largo nnmboi of friends who had attended.

The singing of the hymn * God Will Take Care of You ’ and a prayer by the Rev. Stanley Jenkin brought the meeting to a close.
