SELF-LOADING RIFLE
GOVERNMENT PRIZE WON THIRTY-FIVE SHOTS PER MINUTE Press Association—By Telegraph- Copyright LONDON, July 15. (Received July 10, at 8.50 a.in.) After protracted trials, the B.S.A. Thompson rifle won the British Government’s £3,000 prize for a satisfactory self-loading rifle, says the ‘ Daily News.’ It is of simple construction, ami easy to handle, enabling thirtyfive shots to be made per minute, which is almost twice as many as the present hand-operated riile. It is also more accurate in shooting, and it is claimed that, hacked up with the modern machine gun, Dio new' rifle will be sufficient to meet any requirement of modern battle tactics.—United Service.
