(Received July it, at 11.45 a.m.) There is intense indignation among Europeans over the publication in the chief Nationalist newspaper ‘ Fc.'-.vard ’ of letters H?y eye-witnesses alleging that the true death roll in the Howrah railway smash has been deliberately concealed. One writer states: “ The dead and wounded were treated worse than dogs by the relief train party. The wounded were searched and killed. When a cry arose from the wreckage a European came with a light. Then there was the sound of heavy blows and the voice ceased.” The writer offers to prove that the dead numbered more than 3UO instead of twenty, as was reported. He says the dying were despatched with rods, and many dead and wounded were conveyed to an unknown destination. —Australian Press Association-United Service. [The most serious accident of recent years on the East India railways occurred eight miles oultside Howrah last Monday. Thirteen people were dead and thirty-two were injured. Tho cause was the derailment of the eugine near a culvert, resulting in the front break-van and two passenger carriages being telescoped. Tho locality was within the strike area, and was the work of strikers. Sabotage was definitely proved, as 120 ft to 130 ft of the rails were removed. The revised casualty list showed that eighteen people were dead and thirty-two injured. All wore Indians.]
