'MADAME POMPADOUR'

J. C. WILLIAMSON'S ROYAL COMIC OPERA An important announcement is made in our advertising columns today. This is to the effect that at Flis Majesty’s Theatre next Saturday, July 21, J. C. Williamson, Ltd., will present the Royal Comm Opera Company in' the first Dunedin production of the very successful musical-comedy, ‘Madame 'Pampndour,’ which enjoyed record seasons In Sydney and Melbourne. ‘ Madame Pampadour ’ was adapted by Frederick -Lonsdale and Harry Graham, the lyrics being by Harry Graham and Leo Fall. “ The lovely charm and sweet dignity of that lovely musical comedy actress, Beppic Do Vries,” wrote a critic, “ is never more apparent than in the second act of ‘Madame Pampndour,’ and her singing, _ acting, and fascinating personality is a joy to watch and to hear.” Mr Frank Webster who plays the principal tenor role, scored a brilliant success in England in ‘La Boherac ’ and other light grand operas. Arthur Stigaut has in his time played a scries of important comedy characters. Ho has frolicked as Pantomime Dame, and he has had tho widest variety of roles in comic opera and musical cOmcdy ._ But ho has, in the opinion of critics, scored the greatest success of his career as Joseph Calicot, the poet in ' Madame Pampndour,’ a part that calls for the utmost in experience from ■ an actor and comedian. An outstanding feature of the production is the work of the chorus, and other features are the gorgeous costumes and the magnificent scenic- effects. ‘ Madame Pampadour ’ will be staged for four night only, with a special matinee on Wednesday, July 25, and will bo followed by another great production, ‘ The ' Student Prince,’ which has created a furore wherever it has been presented. The box plans open at The Bristol on Wednesday; July ISv at 9 a.m.
