A special meeting of tho Cooks’ Union discussed the latest offer of the owners that tho cooks should man the ships on tho terms of tho award, but so far no finality has been readied. The difficulty of the roster system was met, by the owners with the suggestion that a list of unemployed cooks should ho submitted to tho owners, and tho latter should engage the men in rotation, subject to the men being suitable. A meeting of the marine transport group was arranged for to-day, but it cannot do anything definite until the result of the cooks’ meeting i.s known. The opinion i.s expressed in Labour circles that a settlement will speedily be reached. Meantime tho owners are proceeding to man the vessels with volunteer labour. A move to deregister I lie Marino Cooks’ Union will bo made in the Federal Arbitration Court to-morrow, when an ex parte application will he made by H.
