NORTH-EAST HARBOUR NOTES
A large number irom the Broad Bay Card Club accepted the invitation ot the Maeaudrew’s Bay Card Club to be present at its meeting held last Tuesday. A pleasant and sociable evening was spent, the winners being Miss Clearwater (ot Broad Bay) and Mr Howlands (of Macandrews), while the booby prizes went to Mrs Niven awl Mr Bhil. Clearwater. The annual meeting ot the Northeast Harbour Householders and Ratepayers’ Association was held on Wednesday night belore a large attendance, Mr E". Gibson being in the chair. The report of the past year’s activities showed that considerable improvements and additions had been made to the hall, and new trestles and tables and coal bins also had been provided lor the use of clubs using the hall. The committee was pleased to say that it had been fortunate in letting the hall for weekly picture entertainments during the winter. The hall had been in considerable demand during the year for socials, and this, combined with the dances staged by the association, had resulted in an improved condition of its finances. After the reports had been read and adopted, opportunity was given several present to join. Discussion took place re the eligibility and voting powers of new members, and, as no satisfactory conclusion could be arrived at, it was decided to adjourn the meeting until June 27, when the election of the committee for the ensuing year will take place. The monthly meeting nl the School Committee was held at the school last Monday, and was attended by Messrs Bewley (chairman), Busby, Scott, Fergusson, and Milward (secretary). The head master reported that, although the number on the roll had dropped a few the average attendance had increased, which must bo considered satisfactory, as should this bo maintained it would only bo a short time before the school would be able to have another teacher for which there was an urgent need.
The committee of the local troupe of Girl Guides, comprising Mcsdames Grigg (president), Free, Churchill, Brookman. Bricked, Macdonald, Budd, Field, M'Dougall. Marrctt, Morlcy Treasurer), and Pattrick (secretary), met yesterday. Mention was made ot ;ho severe loss tlio Maeandrevv Bay
Company had .suffered through the loath of Miss Edna Brown, who was to hare been one of the officers, and it was decided to send a letter of sympathy to her relatives. Progress is being steadily made towards providing uniforms for the girls, and a further social is to be held. This will take the form of a card evening on June 27.
