COOKS ' STRIKE SETTLED
OWNERS’ TERMS ACCEPTED READY FOR IMMEDIATE RESUMPTION END OF FIFTEEN WEEKS' DISPUTE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, June 15. (Received dune 15, at 10.5 a.m.) Tho cooks’ strike has ended, the men agreeing to the shipowners’ terms. The owners hereafter have entirely a free hand in the selection of men for the galleys, either through tho unions, at tho ship'* side, or the shipping offices. Every assistance must be given hv the union ofScvals in the selection of the galley staffs, .and, subject to tho union giving an .uvderlaking to this effect, tho shipowners will raise no objection to the uniavi keeping lists at its office showing the dates of unemployment and registration in order to facilitate priority of selection, the shipowners to be prepared U.ndcr these terms to rc-engagc the incmiicrs of tho union on the terms of the suspended award. Tho strike lasted fifteen weeks. Mr Tudehope, in announcing the settlement, said that the decision had been greatly influenced by the “ extraordinary attitude” of tho other unions, flo indicated that tho men were ready for immediate resumption. The cooks' decision was reached at a mass meeting held simultaneously with the meeting ol tho transport group. Mr Garden announced the cooks’ decision, which was received with cheers and groans. Mr Garden immediately telegraphed Mr Appleton (chairman ot the Commonwealth steamship owners), adding that men would be ready to report for duty to-day. It is expected that, some weeks will elapse before the vessels return to their normal running.
