SHOPPERS’ GUIDE
TO-DAY'S CASH PRICES
The guide gives the lowest cash prices ruling in the city shops today.
Eggs are selling at 2s 6d and 2s 7d, while butter is Is 7d and Is 9d a lb.
Meat prices are unchanged from last week.—Beef (roast), 5d to 8d; corned beef, from 6d to 8d; mutton, from 3jd to 8d; lamb, from 5s quarter; pork, from 8d to Is.
With the exception of red cod fresh fish is fairly scarce to-day, especially soles. Prices:—Groper, 7d, Bd, and 10d; deep-sea cod, 31b for Is; ling, 31b for Is; blue cod, lOd and Is; trevalli, 2d a fillet, and 6d lb; soles, from 4d each; flounders, from 4d each; smoked ’couta, from Is each; smoked blue cod, Is 3d lb; smoked ling, 6d lb; smoked red cod, from 4d each; kingfish, lOd; mutton birds, Is each; fresh trapped rabbits, 8d each; dressed fowls, from 2s each.
Vegetable prices are:—Local hothouse tomatoes, 2s lb; Taieri potatoes, 101 b for Is; cabbages, 2d to 4d; cauliflowers, 4d to 8d; lettuce 3d to 6d; marrow, 2d lb; pumpkin, 2d lb; potatoes, 7s 6d cwt; spinach, 2d bunch; celery, 4d to 6d stick; artichokes, 3d lb; onions, 61b for 1s; pickling onions, 101 b for Is.
Fruit is selling at:—Bananas, 8 for Is; Cox’s Orange apples, 4d; Jonathans, 3d, 4d, and fid lb; Lord Wolseley apples, 3d lb; Delicious apples, 31b for Is 3d; cooking apples, 51b for Is; Winter Cole pears 4d and 6d lb; Winter Nells pears, 4d and fid lb; cooking pears, 3d lb; hothouse grapes (Gros Colman), 4s lb; Sunkist oranges, 3 for Is, 3 for Is 3d; Sunkist lemons, 5 for 1s; Victorian lemons, 6 for Is; grapefruit, 8d each, 3 for Is 9d; Tahiti oranges, 8 for Is and 6 for Is.
