LORRY SMASHED & FIRED
TRAIN- CRASHES INTO BENZINE LOAD [Pkb Unitsd Puess Assoctition.] . PALMERSTON N., June- 14. The south-bound express from ISew Plymouth this afternoon crashed into a lorry heavily laden with case benzine at the West street railway crossing, where a number of accidents navealready occurred. The lorry was smashed and caught fire, but the two occupants--K. Kersal, of Palmerston North, and 1. Lester, ot Auckland— miraculously escaped from the wreckage. Both are suffering badly from "shock, and Kersal is m a serious condition as-the result of bums. The latest hospital report, however, stated-that fcho condition of both is improving. The trnin was delayed for over an hour until the lire brigade had smothered the flames, and the line had been made safe for it to proceed. ■ The lorry, which was the property ot Mr Kersal, was completely consumed, and only a few cases of the benzine were saved.
