DISCUSSIONS AT GENEVA

GENEVA, Juno 12. The situation is Samoa is the most important question in the agenda of the thirteenth session of the Mandates Commission of the League of Nations,, which was opened this morning. Sir James Parr and Sir George Richardson will be present when the report is examined. Mr 0. F. Nelson, with his advisers, is also in Geneva, seeking to communicate his view of the though he has no standing to enable him to ho heard before the Commission. Consideration will also bo given to Mr Newton Rowe’s petition containing various complaints concerning the administration of the territory, while there is another From the Anti-slavery and Aborigines’ Protection Society dealing with the deportation of native chiefs. There is also a petition from certain Samoan natives, dated March, complaining of certain aspects of the administration, and one from Mr Nelson, dated April, complaining of the administration and the measures taken against himself. _ fn his opening speech the Marquis Theodoli, the chairman, when referring to Samoa, alluded with satisfaction to the promptitude with which the New Zealand Government was informing the Commission of recent developments, Sir James Parr having sent documents on several occasions. The Government's efforts to keep the Commission abreast of the situation was a matter of great moment, and ho thanked the Government for sending Sir George Richardson.
The Commission, in the afternoon, will discuss the methods of procedure in dealing with the Samoan question on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday next.—Australian Press Associa-tion-United Service.
