The sinking fund authorities, including Marshal Joffro (president) superintended the lighting of a huge bonfire, in which 14,851 State bonds (representing £456,000) were burned. These were voluntarily surrendered by the holders, bringing the total to the end ot JOIN to £2,640,000. —Australian Press Association.
